I started a new blog on a personal topic: weight loss. I’ve gained a few over the past few years and it’s time to shed the extra pounds by establishing healthy eating habits and a regular exercise routine! Keeping a journal of my thoughts and record of my food intake are definitely good for the process.  Since the topic is unrelated to most of the things I like to talk about here, I went ahead and created an entirely different blog.  Read along if you would like at www.coryisfat.com!  It’s not as self-deprecating as it sounds and it is exaggerated in some ways for fun, but it’s definitely a serious effort on my part.  I appreciate your support! You can subscribe to the blog if you want updates and I welcome your comments and participation!!

Citizen of the Year

March 12th, 2009 No Comments

A quick note to share some exciting news as it relates to an amazing human being that I have the pleasure of knowing, my twin brother, Ryan. I would like to make this announcement for many reasons, one of which, quite simply, is that you will never hear it from Ryan himself!! Another reason is that I hope you will be inspired by some of the things my brother is doing in his community. Actually, before I go any further, I should point out that my brother would strongly object to being called an “amazing human being,” but given that this is my announcement, I will choose the words that I think describe him best!

The announcement: Ryan has been awarded the “Citizen of the Year” award by the Rancho Cordova Rotary Club. This is a big deal!!! With a population of 60,000 plus, Ryan is recognized for his many accomplishments in 2008. He accepts the award with humility and takes very little credit, if any, for his many contributions that have brought dignity where there is little or none and that have inspired a community to bring about change. Below are a few websites that you can browse through to become familiar with some of the ways that Ryan has personally and deeply impacted his community:

Ryan is not one to talk about change like many of us, myself included, but he is one who makes it happen! He is truly a beacon of light in a sometimes very dark place. Many people have been touched by Ryan over the years, and it is some of his more recent accomplishments, guided by his determination to bring dignity to the homeless and band together with fellow neighbors to clean-up a neighborhood and establish a sense of community, that are commendable and have earned him this very special award. Please join us in celebrating and supporting Ryan for the outstanding citizen that he is. Ryan, we are so proud of you. Keep up the good work!

change

September 20th, 2006 5 Comments

An offer that I could not refuse came knocking on my door and I found myself back in a familiar place earlier this week. Paths that crossed one year ago merged once again and I am presented with a set of new challenges and new opportunities, not to mention a major boost to my self-confidence. This is just what I needed. Sorry to keep things so vague at the moment but that’s the way it has to be for now… I’ll fill you in on the details sometime soon. This is just a quick post while I’m on my lunch break… Peace!

Socal Again

July 20th, 2006 4 Comments

So we left Sacramento.

Said our good-bye’s.

And made our 9th trip to Socal this year.
(Farah in rear view mirror)

Much will be missed up north.

But we’ll be back up for a visit really soon.

In the meantime, it’s great to be back in Socal again, the very place that we started off one year ago. Right now and up until we move into our brand-new, never-lived-in-before apartment on the 15th, we’re staying in Rowland Heights with family. And for those of you who don’t already know, our new place is located in Santa Ana in a very cool area called the Artist’s Village.

It’s refreshing to see familiar faces again.

And to be so close to the beach!

Thanks to these two we were able to make a very unexpected day trip to Catalina Island.

So our first weekend in Socal wasn’t so bad after all.

We rented a golf cart and drove all around.

All the time wishing that we had a pimped-out golf cart like this one.

It was nice.

As Catalina always is.

Exactly what the doctor ordered–a little rest and relaxation.

Thank you so much, Dad and Leslie.

And here’s to the start of a new adventure!

Where are you, Jimmy?

November 13th, 2005 13 Comments

Has anyone seen Jimmy? All six people that I know in Sacramento are out of town tonight (in SF) and Farah is at her job. So it’s me and this lost cat, Jimmy, who are feeling kind of off-course and lonely tonight, or if I am to be completely honest, I should say not just tonight. I really want to meet some people in Sacramento but it’s proven to be a not-so-easy task. I mean, where do you make friends when you’re done with school, married, and living in a new town? Seriously, how do we go about meeting cool people with similar interests? We’ld really like to meet people who like the things that we like: travel, language, photography, music, and just plain hanging out. And Farah would love to make some friends–Taiwanese, Japanese, American, whatever–just girls that she can hang with. She really needs to have that outlet because it’s gotta be really hard to be with me all of the time!

So what do we do? Do we place an ad in the local paper saying, “Hey, we want some friends,” or “Married couple looking for open-minded, cool people to kick it with on the weekends,” or what? I think that being surrounded by so many friends when we were in Japan–never a dull moment and always something to do–spoiled us in so many ways, because it’s really not that easy now, is it?! Ah!!! But you know, we have to be thankful for what we have and hopeful for what we have not. Right? There are many people who have gone out of there way to welcome us to Sacramento, and to them we truly are grateful. Thanks to Tyson and Dan, especially. You guys are great. It’s just that when you are the only people that I know here and you are all out of town, and the wife is working… it just kind of sucks!

So if you have any advice or comments for us, hey, we’re open to anything that you might have to say. And for now, it’s back to searching for Jimmy the lost cat! haha
